⏵ character information
name: Pete Ross/Spider-Boy
canon: Amalgam comics
age: 20
canon point: Shortly after his marriage to Insect Queen
history: Here
abilities:
Skills: Genius level scientist- While this is never outright stated on panel, the fact that he is trusted to perform tests on equipment designed by Cadmus's scientists and is directly stated to be the eventual creator of a Spider-DNA serum that will eventually heal Spider-Boy 2099 of damaged caused by one of Pete's villains implies that this is the case.
Photography- When he needs a break from celebrity life, Pete works as a freelance photographer.
Superpowers:
Gravity Control- Spider-Boy can control his own personal gravity, allowing him to walk on walls and ceilings. This ability also allows him to decrease gravity's effects on himself, allowing him to jump to superhuman heights, and it can be used to mimic superhuman strength and speed, to levels at Spider-Man's limits rather than Superman's.
personality: Like a great deal of Spider-People throughout the multiversity, Pete Ross lives by the motto "With great power comes great responsibility." What differentiates him in this case is the why and how. While many of them took it up due to seeing the effects of ignoring a criminal, Pete took it up because a criminal had ignored him in favor of attacking and killing his adoptive uncle. Believing that he could've easily handled things if he had been the one attacked, Pete swore that nobody would ever ignore him again.
Most of his superhero personality is based around this. While the fun, wisecracking, goofball celebrity persona is genuinely just who he is to a degree? He does play it up in service of a goal. If everyone's looking at him, they're not looking at any of the bystanders or victims he's protecting.
He's a clone, but it isn't that big a deal for him. It's just part of who he is. He doesn't keep it a secret, he's cracked jokes about it, and while occasionally he might wonder what it would've been like to go up normally? It's not something he really dwells on.
What he does dwell on is Ross's death; and he considers it one of his greatest failures. He had powers, he could've protected himself if the mugger had focused on him instead of Uncle Gen. Thinking about it occasionally causes him to space out. Every failure or even just near-failure is inevitably compared to it.
That said, he's not really prone to regularly brooding about it. For the most part he loves his life. He's got fans, fame, friends, and a wife he absolutely adores. The jokes come quick for him, and like Peter Parker they're not always a cover for how much he's internally panicking. Still pretty annoying though.
